World Book Day well celebrated!

École Jeannine Manuel celebrated World Book Day on 3rd March 2016.
From Paddington to Tintin and his dog Milou, from the Cat in the Hat to Fantomette, from Sherlock Holmes to Little Red Riding Hood together with the Playing cards from Alice in Wonderland and Bill from Boule et Bill… For World Book Day, pupils at École Jeannine Manuel impersonated characters from stories that are truly without borders.
Students and their teachers, who also came dressed as their favourite book characters, started this special day with a grand parade in the hall that demonstrated the extent of their creativity, their attention to detail and their passion for literature.
After sharing and exchanging about the favourite books and characters, pupils voted for the class’ most creative costume.
This special day was also the occasion for everyone to partake in a special silent reading session in the DEAR room. Usually reserved to Secondary students this room is dedicated to the Drop Everything And Read programme that consists of four supervised reading periods per week during which 6e and 5e pupils take a moment to read from a selection of books suggested by the school.
Finally, World Book Day was also the occasion to address, with some classes, the issue of illiteracy in the world as well as to consider the crucial importance of reading as the foundation for all future learning. This gave us the opportunity to launch the Readathon for CE2, CM1 and CM2 pupils. The 2016 Readathon is organised by Room to Read, a charity which works to develop literacy skills and the habit of reading among children in Asia and Africa.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the families, pupils and teachers who put so much energy and passion in making this day a success. Thank you all and keep reading!
