Ecole Jeannine Manuel Paris ranked best high school in France for 2018

Reaffirming its tradition of excellence, Ecole Jeannine Manuel in Paris has been ranked best high school in France by l’Internaute (alongside the Lycée Henri IV) for the sixth year in a row and second best high school according to the Figaro (between Henri IV and Louis-Le-Grand).
According to Head of School Elisabeth Zéboulon, “These results are all the more remarkable given that all of our students take the International Option of the French Baccalaureate (OIB), the most prestigious course of study offered in the French education system. Congratulations to our students and staff who contribute to these results, day after day!”

British Science Week celebrated at school

You have 30 strands of spaghetti and 20 Jelly Babies to build the highest tower. How will you structure your tower so that it does not crumble under its own weight?
These were the kind of science challenges that we organised for our pupils as part of British Science Week. Other tasks included building the strongest bridge using lolly sticks and creating an egg-protection device meant to prevent an egg from cracking when dropped from a height. We can’t help but wonder what fun activities our science teachers will come up with for next year!

British Science Week, run by the British Science Association, is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.

Exam Week comes to a close

Escape games, orienteering, museum visits, Jeannine Manuel “African Cup of Nations” and British Science Week challenges… It wasn’t all hard work for our students during this year’s Spring Exam Week.

Following their exam sessions in the morning, our Middle School pupils enjoyed some well-deserved relaxing activities in the afternoons. We were very impressed to see how enthusiastic and engaged they remained throughout the week!

Our school featured on French television

Our primary maths teaching method was first imagined by Lolita Bercoff (Deputy Head – Paris) 18 years ago. Current Head of School, Pauline Prévot, joined her in developing this programme shortly afterwards. Since then, our method has never ceased to evolve and adapt based on the feedback of pupils and teachers in London, Paris and Lille.
This brief documentary, filmed in Paris in Year 5 and 6 classrooms, highlights how our pupils develop an in-depth understanding of mathematical concepts and acquire research and reasoning skills through hands-on manipulation.

CM1s visit Sotheby’s

On the 28th February, Sotheby’s sold Picasso’s Femme au béret et à la robe quadrillée for a record £50 million. Thanks to an invitation from a parent, our Year 5 pupils were able to go see the incredible works of art sold at Sotheby’s that evening, hours before the historic sale. Pupils also had the opportunity to admire Picasso’s Matador, as well as works by Giacometti, Magritte, and Derain.

World Book Day 2018

We celebrated World Book Day at school yesterday!
On this occasion, pupils and teachers alike came to school dressed up as their favourite book characters and took part in a series of reading related activities. Highlights of the day included peer-reading sessions and the costume parade.
The day was also marked by the launch of the Readathon, a friendly competition which encourages children to read as many books as possible to raise money for Room to Read, a charity which supports literacy and girls’ education.
